Preventing motorcycle theft and damage

Gearing up to sell a motorcycle. I haven't sold one in about nineteen years. Since it's kinda pricey I'm trying to decide how to conduct the sale without risking a theft. Taking the prospective buyer for a ride isn't included as an option because I don't want to, I've never ridden it two up. Got an opinion?

How to prevent motorcycle theft?
Just trust 'em.
Chase bike.
Deposit equal to insurance deductible.
Full cost deposit.
No test rides.

I'm selling a bike right now, too, and my policy is simple: no test rides unless I have the full purchase amount, in cash, in my pocket and a signed sale contract. I can void the contract and return the money if the buyer comes back with the bike in perfect condition and has changed their mind, but if they wreck it up...its been sold.

Take and hold his license from him and hold his wife hostage.

Either keep his license or run a copy of it if your printer supports this.

Otherwise I'll leave you my 'ol lady as security. If I don't come back in a day or so, she's yours.

Here is what you do. NO TEST RIDES. You can see it run, or ride them on back. If they want it they BUY it and you give them 5 hours and 2x the mileage to the shop of their choice and give them a full refund if it is brought back with those conditions met in the same condition. That way if they wad it up it is their problem.

I took the CASH money and offered an immediate buy-back option, if following the test-ride they were unsatisfied - and so long as no damage occurred during the test ride - and they had to sign a form declaring that, which I printed up on my computer. And show me some insurance or something- I forget if I required that.
That way they kinda self-limit and don't ride it balls-out since they already own it - and now have the test-ride to convince/confirm themselves of their totally awesome wisdom and deep value of their insightful decision.

I'm pretty sure most people sell themselves first and justify it later. But not having any recourse is bad for the seller, and with CASH in hand you don't have to worry about how long the test-ride takes - but I put a limit on it of 20-minutes so I didn't have to hang out all day. :-)
