Paean to Bureaucratic Stupidity
Our kids (son & DIL) are teaching summer school again this year. I asked if they scored classrooms with air conditioning this year (summer daytime temps are routinely triple digit).
They did get air, but...the thermostats were installed next to the classroom door. So the troublemaker kid in every class would mess with them while entering or leaving (I know I would have).
So they installed lock boxes on the thermostats. The regular school year teachers take the keys with them over the summer and since their is no maintenance staff in the summer the thermostats remain locked up. With the air conditioning on LOW and the fan on ON.
So 24/7 over the summer, the schools air conditioning is running. Day, night, all the time. The summer school session lasts one month of the three during summer break.

But hey...all you have to do to save the planet is put toxic mercury bombs in all of your light sockets.
You can pick those locks with a paperclip.

My son didn't want to damage anything in some other teachers regular class room.
He took a chair to the lock box in his regular classroom. That fixed the locked problem once and for all.
