Too many cops with too many guns

Yet another reason the tired argument that "only military and law enforcement" should be allowed to have certain guns.
Federal agents are joining the investigation into the theft of guns from Contra Costa County sheriff's patrol cars in a station parking lot.
(...)
The Sheriff's Office says three Colt semiautomatic assault rifles and a Remington shotgun were taken.
(...)
The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting with the investigation.
(...)
The break-in follows a similar incident last month when thieves stole guns from cars in a California Highway Patrol office about a mile away.
If the police cannot hold on to them they shouldn't have them. I also question why two large police departments need the help of two federal police agency's. Do the FBI and the ATF not have enough to do? I suppose there might be some legitimate federal tie in but it isn't mentioned in the article.

Guns on the streets, in the bad guys hands, provided by the police. Nice.
